Forest School
Here at Premier Lodge Day Nursery we have our own designated Forest School area and mud kitchen in our garden. We have our trained Level 3 Forest School Leaders – Rachel an Deeps.
The forest school movement has a philosophy of child-led learning, with a focus on all the senses. The aim is to foster rich learning experiences, ecological literacy, and healthy living by connecting children to nature. The Forest School is loved by everyone. We have thriving trees and bushes bushed. Twice a week, our 2 Forest School Leaders, carry out sessions with the 3-4 year old children. They learn about the nature around them and learn new things about the animals or insects we find.
The explore the things around them with our senses, such as what they see, what they hear and what they feel. The children take part in many activities such as making bird feeders, hide and seek with the woodland animals, making mud pies and being able to choose what they want to do. We have also carried out experiments with natural objects. All children in the nursery have access to the Forest School, in small groups.

Lingtots
We build phonological awareness through our activities and this includes recognising environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, using body percussion and voice sounds plus exploring rhythm, rhyme, alliteration, oral blending and segmenting.
Each week we recall the sounds the letters make with actions and then play a listening game. We also end our sessions with some movement to support fine or gross motor skill development. This could be with sensory scarves, pom poms, mark making or with play doh.
The children are always enthusiastic and engaged. I love visiting Premier Lodge and working with them all.

Allotment
In 2023, we took only thr project of renting an allotment from the council. When we first got it, it was very over grown. It took a lot of work. But with the help of parents and staff, we was able to transform it.
We have created a garden area, with space for the children to sit and relax. We have also created some raised beds, that we have already sowed some crop from, such as tomatoes, runner beans, courgettes and strawberries.
We also have a plum tree and fig tree, which we have been able to maintain and we have receive a lot of produce from them. The children have been able to taste these when back at nursery and also take some home. Each week on a Wednesday, we take a group of children to the allotment.
They help with planting, digging pruning and watering. This is such a valuable experience teaching children about the world and environment in which they live.
